Intelligent Mobility: basic concepts

Smart Mobility is an integrated mobility system whose management comes into play with the new technologies and ICT systems (Information and Communications Technology) that allow the use of “intelligent” means and modalities to move or move: electric vehicles and bicycles in particular, but also mobility methods such as car sharing.

Also this term includes more rational infrastructure management. Smart mobility is one of the cornerstones of the smart city, in fact, it is one of the six essential factors for a city to be defined as “intelligent”. The other elements to consider are the economy, environment, people, purchasing power and governance.

Circular Economy

Circular economy “is a generic term to define an economy designed to regenerate itself In a circular economy, material flows are of two types: biological, capable of reintegrating into the biosphere, and technicians, destined to be revalued without entering the biosphere. ”

The circular economy is a planned economic system to reuse materials in subsequent production cycles, reducing waste to the maximum. The linear economic model “take-make-dispose” is based on the accessibility of large amounts of resources and energy and is increasingly less suitable for the reality in which we are operating.

Efficiency initiatives, which work to reduce the resources and fossil energy consumed per unit of production, alone can delay the crisis of the economic model, but they are not enough to solve the problems created by the limited nature of the stocks.

Therefore, the transition from the linear model to a circular model is necessary, taking into account all its phases, from planning to production, consumption and to the final destination of life.

It is about taking advantage of all opportunities to limit the contribution of materials and energy contribution to minimize waste and losses, paying attention to the prevention of negative environmental externalities to generate a new social and territorial value.

What is car / bicycle / mobility sharing?

This term refers to sharing a vehicle, whether a bicycle, a car or a scooter. It is a service that allows you to use a vehicle, rent it for hours, book it, drive it and return it in a parking lot, and pay for its use.

What is car-pooling?

Car pooling, a term used to refer to cars shared in a group, indicates a mode of transport that consists of sharing private cars among a group of people, with the main objective of reducing transport costs. It is one of the intervention areas of the so-called sustainable mobility.

How do you know where to recharge your electric vehicle?

There are several free applications available online that allow you to know the location of a charging station, know if it is available at any given time, reserve it, which allows you to organize a long trip, providing appropriate stops based on your autonomy, etc. Managing the infrastructure of the stations is a service that we provide in MOVIVERDE.

How to move in traffic?

The use of Google Maps Navigation provides geographic locations, as well as the interior maps of a selection of airports, hotels, shops and more. These maps provide real-time information about the traffic. You can also look at maps in more detailed mode with 3D buildings.

How long does it take to recharge?

What are the advantages of Smart Mobility / Sustainable Electric Mobility?

The advantages of an electric car or an electric vehicle are both technical and economic in nature. The first refers to the operation of the engine, simpler, quieter and cleaner than traditional ones; the latter refers to the management of costs, which for an electric are more contained (there are no parts subject to wear or replacement of fluids, as in traditional vehicles).

The emissions are equal to zero, the components of the cars (on average lighter) impact less, the lithium batteries can last a lot (there are cycles of 2,000 recharges, 300,000 km of travel, 10 years of useful life, and deals with factors that are constantly improving.

As non-polluting vehicles, electric cars are not subject to restrictions of movement in areas of limited traffic, also subject to the registration number to restricted traffic areas. This represents a great benefit for everyone who lives in large urban centres or who will travel to work by car.

To “fill” an electric vehicle, simply connect it to the power source for a few hours and pay at the standard tariff provided by your energy supplier.

In addition, fast charging points will soon be extended within the cities, where a driving capacity of approximately 100 km will be achieved with 30 minutes of battery charging.

The motor of the electric car is extremely quiet and contributes greatly to eliminate noise pollution and make the driving experience more pleasant.

For charging stations, the standard reference is IEC 61851-1.

This e-regulation foresees an electronic control system that uses a “universal” communication system between the station and the vehicle through a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) circuit, necessary to guarantee the safety of the charging process, both for people and to avoid damage to the vehicle’s battery.

Domestic recharge without PWM.

Mode 1 consists of the direct connection of the electric vehicle to the normal electrical outlets. Therefore, the Control Box is not provided. This mode is only suitable for electric bicycles and some scooters. It does not apply to electric cars

Safe recharge at home / business level, slow or fast.

In the vehicle’s power cable there is a device called Control Box (PWM safety system) that guarantees the safety of operations during charging, sockets that can be used are domestic or industrial up to 32 Amp, Ampere is a unit of electric current. (single-phase and three-phase, 22kW max.).

Refills for public areas, slow or fast

It is the mandatory form for public areas, recharging must be done through a specific power system with specific connectors, the PWM security system is present, the recharge can be of the slow (16 A 230 V) or fast type (up to 32 Amp, Ampere is a unit of electric current, 400 V)

Why use electric vehicles?

  • We want to take care of the planet
  • We want to create a new responsible culture towards our environment
  • We want to reduce CO2 emissions
  • We want to reduce diseases
  • We want to use renewable energy
  • We want to live better and in harmony with nature
